When is the best time to treat my
child?
Every individual is unique and
different. In the past, the common philosophy was to wait until your
teenager lost all of his or her baby teeth before seeking orthodontic
treatment. Although, one can certainly be treated at that point, early
detection of orthodontic problems can yield easier and more conservative
correction. Today, the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends
that children receive an orthodontic evaluation at the first sign of an
orthodontic problem or by the age of 7. For more information please visit www.braces.org
Not
all children need to be treated at this early age, but an examination can
anticipate the most advantageous time to begin treatment. Severe problems are
better treated at an earlier age in order to create a better, more stable, end
result. Should your child not be ready for treatment, our office will monitor
growth and development on a regular basis at no charge.
Goals for Early
Interceptive Treatment:
·
Develop or preserve space for crowded erupting permanent
teeth.
·
Minimize the need for permanent tooth extractions
·
Influence jaw growth for improperly positioned jaws.
·
Reduce the risk of trauma to severely protruding front
teeth
·
Reduce treatment time in braces
