MONGIOVI ORTHODONTICS

VINCENT D. MONGIOVI, D.M.D.

Invisalign is an innovative system of
clear, orthodontic shells or aligners that are designed to gradually move
teeth. After multiple sets of the aligners, the teeth are moved into their
proper position and the end result is straighter, healthier teeth. The
first step in the Invisalign process is to have a consultation to see if you
are a candidate for treatment. Simple dental impressions and diagnostic
records, along with the doctor’s detailed treatment plan, are then sent to
Align Technology, the Invisalign laboratory. At Align Technology, the
impressions are processed and scanned by their advanced imaging software and
eventually custom aligners are fabricated. However, before the aligners are
actually produced, a 3-D model of how the teeth will move is sent to the doctor
electronically to review for accuracy.

Once
the doctor accepts the information provided in the 3-D images, Align Technology
would go ahead and make the aligners. Dr. Mongiovi prefers to share this 3-D
technology with his patients before accepting Align’s diagnostic image to make
sure that the end result is what the patient desires and to explain the time
and number of aligners that will be needed to straighten their teeth.

Invisalign
is growing in popularity as the treatment of choice for many adults. The
aligners are nearly invisible, so one can straighten their teeth without anyone
knowing. Each aligner is removable, so there are less eating restrictions than
with traditional braces. Also, there are no wires or braces to cause any
irritations, so the process is more comfortable. While Invisalign is a
great option for most patients there are some situations where traditional
braces may be more suitable. It is important to work with an Invisalign-certified
doctor who is also familiar with traditional orthodontic treatment when
deciding which treatment is right for you.
